Oryana is a freelance journalist, blogger, media trainer producer and copywriter with more than 15-years experience in the Australian and international media.
She started out doing the overnight, weekend beat at The Daily Telegraph in Sydney, later rising through the ranks of the newspaper world. Her last in-house role was at The Australian where she worked as special reports writer and acting editor for four years (until the end of 2013).
She has also worked in magazines – as a staff writer for Australian Geographic and a senior sub-editor on Qantas The Australian Way. A natural storyteller, she’s dabbled in TV – winning an ABC TV grant to film a documentary in India, working on various Australian Geographic Best of Australia documentaries and pitching, and researching, a series for futuristic geek show Beyond Tomorrow.
Story assignments have taken her across the Atlantic Ocean on an 80-foot sailing boat, reporting from Israel during the second Gulf War, on tour with AC/DC and hiking the Great Ocean Road.
Oryana’s articles have been published in a wide range of media including The Australian, The Jerusalem Post, New Zealand Herald, Sydney Morning Herald, The West Australian, The Courier Mail, Adelaide Advertiser, Body + Soul, Cosmopolitan, YourMoney, Big Issue, OUTthere Magazine, Taste, Jetstar Magazine, Virgin Voyeur, Australian Photographer, Australian Triathlete and Australian Associated Press.
She is based in Sydney with her husband and two children.
